2027 — fifty years, and a museum

On 16 September 2027, fifty years will have passed since Maria Callas left us in her Paris apartment on avenue Georges-Mandel. Half a century later, her voice remains the measure of opera itself.

The Maria Callas Foundation — created in Paris in 2017 by her close friends and associates, keeper of the world's most significant private collection devoted to her — is preparing the anniversary year around one central project:

The Maria Callas Museum, Paris

The Foundation's goal is to open the first museum devoted to Maria Callas in Paris, her chosen city, for the fiftieth anniversary. The museum will present the collection the Foundation has assembled and preserved for a decade: 5,000 original photographs, 200 hours of recordings — many unpublished —, her letters, her stage costumes, her personal belongings. The anniversary year

Around the Museum, the Foundation is preparing a year of exhibitions, screenings of its restored films — including Callas – Paris, 1958, her legendary first Paris recital in 4K —, publications and events, in France and internationally. The detailed programme will be announced here and to the Foundation's newsletter subscribers first.

A fiftieth anniversary happens once. Institutions, brands and media wishing to build a project for 2027 with the Foundation's archives — exhibitions, documentaries, publications, broadcasts — are invited to get in touch now : the strongest projects are built early. Individuals can support the Museum or join the Friends of Maria Callas — and belong to the founding circle of those who made it possible.

Fifty years on, what Maria Callas gave to music deserves more than commemoration: a home. The Foundation exists to build it — in 2027, and for the generations after.
